The Fleshman Singers

The Beginning of a Fleshman Singer was introduced by New Light
Missionary Baptist Church youth choir where Ken’Raya Fleshman
found her talent. The youth choir was led by Kristiana Ellis and Pastor
R.W. Sayles where they discovered that the young Ken’Raya at the age
of 6 had a big voice. They had Ken’Raya lead the youth choir one
Sunday morning with the song selection, “If Anybody ask you who I am,
Just tell them I’m a child of God” which shocked the congregation. As
years went on, she became a young soloist singing all over Cleveland
while returning back to New Light at the age of 10 stunning the church
with her favorite song “I know I been Changed” in which she received
standing ovations and a write ups on Cleveland.com and The Call &
Post. As time went on, 11-year-old Ken’Raya started herself a group
made up of her 3 baby sisters and younger brother KJ, who were
7,4,3,and 2. They would be upstairs stomping, clapping yelling and
beating on the floor as if they were drums. For one year this went on
until they entered their parents room on a Saturday morning to tell
them they were ready, Booskie(dad) replied,” ready for what? Y’all better take
your butts back upstairs aint nobody taking y’all nowhere this early”.
The kids replied, “No Daddy we ready to sing”, he said “sing what,” the
kids sang, I pray we all be ready. From that day on they became a group
but with no name. Deacon Kenneth Fleshman Sr. held a program at
Mount Ester Baptist Church and called the children up to sang. The MC
asked what do we call them? Their grand father, Deacon Fleshman Sr.
yelled “The Fleshman Singers,” everyone laughed and from that day on
The Fleshman Singers was born  as dad “Booskie” took the group to higher levels.   (KJ departed the group to pursue a football career.)
